"I had some damaged and tatty books that needed repair, and pamphlets that I wanted to bind up. Barry's workshop was a great discovery, and I was surprised at how possible these projects, and others since then, have been under Barry's guidance. More than that, working with my hands and learning new skills has been very satisfying and fun."
"I have been coming to Tuesday evening workshops with Barry for just over three years and, having started as a complete beginner, have learned to rebind books, repair their spines, mend paper, and all sorts of other tasks. From day one, I was able to tailor the sessions to my own individual projects under Barry's expert guidance. He makes sure I do the work to the best of my abilities whilst being encouraging about my progress. As a collector of old books this has been a fantastic way to look after my collection whilst developing skills in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. I highly recommend it."
Saturday, April 28th 2018 - Drum Leaf Binding
This adhesive binding is a perfect structure for printmakers, photographers, or anyone who wishes to present visual narratives with no sewing thread to interrupt the flow of imagery. Because a drum leaf book is not laid out in signatures but made of single-sided folios, the complexities of text layout are avoided.
